WICKED’s preliminary explanation for the pain the Gladers had suffered and the loss they had endured is simply that it was all necessary steps taken to find a cure for the Flare, the disease accidentally released by the government’s bio-warfare department which chews away at the mind and turns normal people into flesh-eating cranks. Having their memories back will answer all of their questions. Jorge and Brenda are cranks who helped the Gladers survive The Scorch Trials.Īs The Death Cure begins, WICKED brings the Gladers back to base and informs them that the trials are over and that their memories are scheduled to be restored. But two new companions were added to the roster: Jorge, a Spanglish-speaking hero with an attitude, and Brenda, Teresa’s romantic competition. From the original sixty Gladers in The Maze Runner, only a handful are left at the beginning of The Death Cure after being forced through deadly test after test.
